John Allen

John Allen, Head of Outdoor Pursuits at Birkdale School in Sheffield for the last 16 years. John is an MIC and AMI member, Winter ML and has some old kayak coaching qualifications. He served the Independent Schools Adventure Activities Association both as committee member and secretary for the last 8 years, and now as Chair of Independent Outdoor. He is good at climbing up things, so long as they aren’t underground, but is quite afraid of open water.

Paul Saville

Paul Saville runs the outdoor programme at Trent College in Nottingham. He is an AMI member and a level 3 coach in most paddle sports. He is a keen mountain biker, and also runs regular overseas expeditions - specialist area Greenland

Steve Gorman

Steve started out as a Jig and Tool Maker, but for the last 25 years he has worked full time in the Outdoor Industry. He is an overseas expedition guru, and is passionate about these being run ‘by the school, for the school’. He is ‘Co-ordinator of Outdoor Education’ and ‘DofE’ at Oakham, another AMI member, and has an enormous string of NGB awards for coaching paddle sports, especially open boating.

Eric Cittanova

Eric Cittanova is French, an administrative genius, and Head of Outdoor Pursuits at Manchester Grammar School. Eric is an International Mountain Leader, and his specialist area is Morocco.

Rory Sellar

Rory Sellar heads up the extensive outdoor programme at Abbotsholme School in Derbyshire.

He is an MIC and level 5 coach in kayak and canoe. In a previous life he was outdoor adviser for Derbyshire. He and Eric can be found most winters in the Cairngorms introducing their pupils to the rigours of winter mountaineering
